Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome: My Favourite Bridge in the Eternal City

Oppression Conquered, Loyalty to the State, Freedom, and the Unification of Italy: the four allegories of Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome.

These four sculptures were carved from Travertine marble in 1912 and designed by a variety of sculptors: Giuseppe Romagnoli, Italo Griselli, Cesare Reduzzi, and Giovanni Nicolini.

The bridge itself was designed by Ennio De Rossi and it opened on the 50th anniversary of Italy's unification.
